A second course in String Theory – created by Edward Hughes, Queen Mary University of London
This is intended for the beginning PhD student in theoretical physics with a grounding in differential geometry and bosonic string theory, but little knowledge of superstrings, branes and twistor string theories. We review the rudiments of conformal field theory, superstring quantisation, branes and duality and ambitwistor strings in a logical fashion, but omitting dense calculation. By the end of the course, the student should be confident with contemporary terminology as employed in many seminars and at conferences. Furthermore, we hope this course will provide them with a firm grounding from which to start a more thorough exploration of the literature in whichever direction is appropriate for their research.
