International Student

Affelia Wibisono, 1st year physics undergraduate at RHUL

When it came to choosing my university, there were three main reasons that helped to make my decision an easy one. Friendly, approachable lecturers, a shining reputation and excellent facilities. For me, it was clear that Royal Holloway, University of London had them all – and more!

Home from home

As soon as I stepped into the department on my first visit, I knew that I wanted to be part of this community of students who were passionate about studying physics, and having a good time whilst doing so. Then, when I came back in September, all of the staff and students made me feel so welcome that I fitted in straight away. I soon found out that because of the department’s fairly compact size, it’s a very close-knit community where everyone is welcomed.

A name, not a number

As students, we have a good rapport with the lecturers. We’re not just a face among a sea of others – they know us as individuals and by name, rather than as a group. They genuinely care about our progress and well-being and importantly, they teach us to become physicists rather than to just pass exams. There’s also a great open-door policy, which means that I can ask my lecturers for help as soon as I have any problems.

Coming to Royal Holloway has helped me to grow as a person, as well as a physicist, and I’d recommend it to anyone considering studying physics at university.
